Our Founding Principles

Established in 2020, The Structure Studio was born from a desire to do things differently. Today, we are a multi-regional team of engineers across London, Bath, and the Midlands.

We have built a reputation for delivering high-performance engineering on design-focused projects where technical precision is paramount. Our firm is defined by a shared commitment to speed of delivery, clear communication, and an integrated approach to the design process.

Deep Collaboration

Our success isn’t the product or clever marketing – it is deeply rooted in l0ng-term relationships and a precise understanding of each project’s unique vision. We grown through the trust of repeat clients and architects. By engaging early in technical discussions, we provide structural solutions that safeguard the architectural intent while enhancing the final design.

Sophisticated Simplicity and Value

Complexity is easy; simplicity is a skill. We believe that the most elegant designs are those that prioritize material efficiency and constructability. We strive for lean designs that reduce waste and simplify the construction for the contractor on-site, ensuring structural integrity is balanced with commercial reality.

Integrated Technology

In our industry, information is only as good as its delivery. We utilise many tools which enables us to deliver information effectively and efficiently for all scenarios.

  • The Modern Day Hand Sketch: There will always be a time and place for a sketch or markup. We utilise sophisticated PDF tools for high-quality, rapid-response communications to and from the site or for early-stage design ideas.
  • 3D Analysis & BIM: From small-scale interventions to major builds, we utilise 3D modelling to bridge the gap between abstract design and construction reality. We use 3d drawing tools to communicate the design as well as assist us with detailed structural analysis.

Award-Winning Standards: Our tech-forward approach was recognized by Trimble, who featured us as an industry case study and invited us to the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Awards.

Economic Intelligence

We recognize that structural integrity must be balanced with commercial reality. Our approach adds value to a project in three ways:

  • Material Optimisation: By utilising advanced 3D analysis, we can refine member sizes and reinforcements, ensuring you aren’t paying for unnecessary over-specification.
  • Cost-Conscious Design: We engage early in the design phase to identify potential site risks or “hidden” structural hurdles before they reach the ground.
  • Speed to Site: Our investment in digital communication means fewer delays during the construction process, keeping the project on schedule.

Professional Accreditation and Expertise

Our team is defined by technical rigor and a commitment to the highest industry standards. The Structure Studio is led by engineers holding premier professional qualifications, ensuring every project is backed by verified expertise and accountability.

Chartered Structural Engineers (MIStructE):

Mastery in the design and stability of buildings, held by members of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Chartered Civil Engineers (MICE):

Broad-spectrum engineering excellence recognized by the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Party Wall Specialists (MIPWS):

Expert guidance on legal boundaries and neighborly matters through the Institute of Party Wall Surveyors.

By maintaining these chartered statuses, we ensure our clients benefit from the latest technical innovations, rigorous safety protocols, and a strictly regulated code of professional conduct.

Who we are

The Structure Studio is led by three Directors who bring a combined wealth of experience from some of the UK’s most prestigious engineering firms. Every project we undertake benefits from direct Director involvement, ensuring high-level technical oversight from concept to completion.

Gervaise Turbervill

Director | CEng MICE MIStructE MIPWS

Gervaise founded The Structure Studio with a focus on delivering technically integrated engineering that balances complex requirements with commercial reality. Having developed his early specialism in historic buildings and basement construction at Alan Baxter, he later joined the Abbott Holliday Partnership. During this time, he gained extensive experience in structural defect surveys and domestic residential engineering, a core expertise he has integrated into The Structure Studio’s national operations.

Specialisms: Heritage/Listed Buildings and the refurbishment of existing structures, Deep Basements, and Comprehensive Structural Surveys for domestic and commercial properties.

Oliver Hacke

MEng gMICE

Oliver has extensive experience delivering complex structural design for residential, commercial, and historic buildings, including listed refurbishments and architect-led developments.

Oliver began his career at Tony Gee and Partners, working on analysis-led and non-standard projects, before joining Alan Baxter where he specialised in historic building repair and refurbishment. He joined The Structure Studio in 2020 where he has worked on many of our bespoke and most technically complex projects. He prides himself on delivering practical, clear, and robust engineering solutions from early design through to construction.

Chris Chadwick

Director | MEng (Civil & Structural)

Chris joined the partnership to lead our London operations, bringing experience from landmark developments such as Google’s “Landscraper” HQ. Formerly a Senior Engineer at AKT II and Alan Baxter, Chris excels at navigating the rigors of complex, high-profile urban schemes. He bridges the gap between ambitious architectural “vision” and the technical reality of central London construction.
