Residential Development
Camp Road involved the conversion of a 1980s office building to residential use, including the addition of two new apartments within the existing airspace above active ground-floor retail units.
Structural assessment of the original 1980s reinforced concrete frame identified limited capacity in the central internal column and front façade. Conventional strengthening was not viable due to the occupied commercial units below.
To address this a steel grillage was designed that spans over the existing frame, redistributing the loads from the new apartments to higher-capacity elements. This approach avoided intervention to the retail units while maintaining the integrity of the original structure.
The solution enabled the efficient delivery of additional residential floors with minimal disruption to the existing building.
