Firgrove

This newbuild seven-storey reinforced concrete frame building in Farnborough is a mixed use development with commercial accommodation at ground floor, a basement car park, and five upper storeys of residential apartments.

The project presented several complex structural challenges, including a flying freehold over the pavement at the front elevation, stepped floor plates above third-floor level, and significant transfer structures spanning the basement car park. The sloping site required a stepped ground-floor arrangement, resolved through detailed three-dimensional structural analysis.

The structural model and design methodology were recognised by Tekla, who selected the project as a case study and invited the team to present the work at the Institution of Structural Engineers Awards. The structural scope included full reinforcement detailing and scheduling.
